Turmeric prices traded lower by Rs 156 to Rs 14,350 per 100 kgs in futures trading today, as speculators preferred to book profits at prevailing higher levels amid hopes of better yield this season.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in October month fell by Rs 156 or 1.08 per cent to Rs 14,350 per 100 kgs with an open interest of 185 lots.

The spice for September month declined by Rs 152 or 1.04 per cent to Rs 14,500 per quintal in 2,375 lots, while August delivery also fell by Rs 132 or 0.88 per cent to Rs 14,924 per 100 kgs with an open interest of 8,515 lots.

Market analysts said profit-booking at higher prices by speculators led to a fall in turmeric prices at futures trading. Traders expect a higher yield this season on revival of the monsoon, they said.
