Turmeric prices drifted by 0.61% to Rs 6,790 per quintal in futures market today as speculators reduced holdings on sluggish demand in the spot market against adequate supplies from producing belt.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in May declined by Rs 42, or 0.61%, to Rs 6,790 per quintal with an open interest of 3,220 lots.
Likewise, the spice for delivery in April shed Rs 38, or 0.56%, to Rs 6,726 per quintal in 14,055 lots.
Analysts attributed fall in turmeric prices at futures trade to weak demand in the spot market, triggering off-loading of positions by speculators.
