Turmeric prices moved down by Rs 142 to Rs 4,726 per quintal in futures market today owing to slackness in demand against adequate supply.

Hopes of a better crop due to favourable weather in producing region also put pressure on the turmeric prices.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, September turmeric moved down by Rs 142, or 2.92% to Rs 4,726 per quintal with an open interest of 7,740 lots.

The October contract shed Rs 118, or 2.37% to Rs 4858 per quintal in 13,745 lots.

Market analysts said subdued demand in the spot market against adequate stocks position mainly helped turmeric prices to trade lower in the futures trade.
