Turmeric prices gained Rs 18 to Rs 15,188 per quintal in futures trading today on covering up of short positions by speculators.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, the turmeric for delivery in June contract gained Rs 18, or 0.12 per cent, to Rs 15,188 per quintal with an open interest of 5485 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in July contract traded marginally higher by Rs 12, or 0.08 per cent to Rs 14,848 per quintal in 7190 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in turmeric prices at futures market to covering up of pending short positions by speculators created in recent uptrend after the prices in spot market rose on pick up in demand.
