Turmeric futures prices went up by Rs 254, or 2.02 per cent, to Rs 12,856 per 100 kg today in tandem with strong demand at physical markets despite estimates of higher output with an increase in the area.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) counter, turmeric for delivery in September traded higher by Rs 254, or 2.02 per cent, to Rs 12,856 per 100 kg, with an open interest of 6,335 lots.

It ended up 2.34 per cent at Rs 12,602 per 100 kg in the previous session.

The spice for delivery in October-month contract also traded Rs 246, or 2 per cent higher, to Rs 12,536 per 100 kg, with an open interest of 3,600 lots.

Marketmen said firming trend at spot markets on the back of strong domestic demand due to festival season and exports enquiries supported the rise in turmeric futures prices at futures market here.
