Turmeric prices rose by Rs 244 to Rs 15,210 per quintal in futures trade today on fresh buying by traders, supported by pick up in demand at spot markets.

Some exports enquiries and decline in arrivals in the physical market also boosted the trading sentiment.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange counter, turmeric for October delivery rose by Rs 244, or 1.63 per cent, to Rs 15,210 per quintal, with an open interest of 11,635 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in November-month moved up by Rs 176, or 1.35 per cent, to Rs 13,210 per quintal, with an open interest of 8,855 lots.

Marketmen said fresh buying by traders, driven by rise in demand in the spot market led to an upsurge in turmeric prices at futures trade.
