Owing to high production in the new season, turmeric prices have dipped to Rs 22-28 per kg as against Rs 30-36 in the same period last year, down 36.36 per cent.

Even though rain had ruined some of the fields of Nizamabad, one of the major production centres in the country, output was not adversely affected.

Price of raw turmeric in Erode is Rs 23-24 per kg, which is Rs 6-8 lower than last year's price. In Nizamabad, the price is a little lower than Erode at Rs 22-23 per kg. Polished finger price is between Rs 24- 28 per kg across country.

At the Sangli market, price of turmeric ranges from Rs 23 to Rs 40 per kg. Salem turmeric, considered the premium quality in the country, is quoting Rs 40 a kg at the Sangli market.

"The Dugirala turmeric market has not opened because of the delayed harvest. The crop will hit the market in the beginning of April. We are expecting a good harvest from there as well," Kirandip Singh Swani, chairman, Indian Spice and Foodstuff Exporters Association, said.
