Turmeric recover on short-covering

Subdued spot and export demand and the timely progress of monsoon, weighed on sentiment.

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Turmeric prices recovered by 1.32% to Rs 5,824 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators covered-up short positions.

However, subdued spot and export demand and the timely progress of monsoon, weighed on sentiment.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in July gained Rs 76, or 1.32%, to Rs 5,824 per quintal with an open interest of 22,930 lots.

Similarly, turmeric for delivery in June edged up by Rs 74, or 1.31%, to Rs 5,726 per quintal in 13,460 lots.

Market analysts said the rise in turmeric prices at futures trade was attributed to short-covering by speculators but weak subdued and export demand and timely progress of monsoon, capped the gains.
