Tyre production up 28% in first half

Tyre production in the first half of this financial year (April-September) increased 28 per cent while the exports registered an increase of 18 per cent.

The production increased in all tyre segments while growth was negative in exports of truck/bus tyres, light commercial vehicle (LCV) and tractor tyres, according to the latest data by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (Atma).

Total production of tyres increased to 9.53 million from 7.44 million in H1 of 2009-10. A total of 486,608 tyres were shipped in the first half of current financial year as against 413,587 in the same period last year.

The production in the scooter and motor cycle segment surged with scooter tyres registering a 67 per cent growth and three-wheeler segment registering a 46 per cent increase. A rise of 28 per cent was recorded in motor cycle segment.

 

Single digit growth was recorded in truck/bus, LCV and tractor tyres. Two per cent and five per cent growth was recorded in the production of LCV and truck/bus tyres respectively.

The steep rise in the sale of passenger cars enthused the production of tyres too. The production of passenger car tyres increased 41 per cent to 2.09 million.

A total of 1.27 million truck/bus tyres were produced as against 1.21 million in April-September period of last financial year.

Export of tyres for industrial purposes and jeep tyres increased sharply in H1. A whopping 1,956 per cent rise was recorded in industrial tyres with 9,151 tyres exported as against 445 tyres in the same period last year. Jeep tyre exports increased 889 per cent to 7,310 tyres as against 739 a year ago.

Two wheeler/moped tyre exports were at 3,100, against 558, recording a growth of 456 per cent. Export of car tyres increased 26 per cent to 869,15 while that of truck/bus tyres dropped 16 per cent to 145,916. LCV tyre shipment also declined five per cent in H1 to 107,826.
