Unabated selling continues... Sensex sheds 279pts

The Sensex has extended losses and is now down 279 points at 8,167 on the back of unabated selling in the market. Banking, FMCG and energy stocks are the major losers today.

Ranbaxy has slumped over 9% to Rs 144. Hindustan Unilever and Tata Power have tumbled around 6% each to Rs 227 and Rs 635, respectively.

Reliance has shed 5.5% at Rs 1,144. ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank have dropped around 5% each to Rs 270 and Rs 796, respectively.

NTPC has slipped 4.3% to Rs 172. ITC, Reliance Infrastructure and Bharti Airtel have declined 3.7% each to Rs 167, Rs 441 and Rs 579, respectively.

 

SBI and Tata Steel are down around 3% each at Rs 928 and Rs 152, respectively.

Sun Pharma has surged 3.5% to Rs 1,010. Sterlite and TCS are up over 1% each at Rs 249 and Rs 467, respectively.

The market breadth is fairly negative - out of 2,377 stocks traded so far, 1,677 have declined, 608 have advanced and 92 are unchanged.
