The Dow Jones lost 131 points to 12,029. The Nasdaq declined 28 points to 2,430.
Most Indian ADRs were down except Dr Reddy's, which rose 3.4% and MTNL, up 0.7%.
Tata Communications declined 4.4% and Infosys lost 2.84%. ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank declined 2.76% and 2.61% respectively.
