US markets end down; MTNL surges 8%

Fresh worries of the budget deficit dragged US markets down on Thursday, with stocks of manufacturing companies taking the brunt.

The Dow shed 130 points (1.5%) at 8,292. The Nasdaq slipped 33 points (2%) to 1,695.

Indian ADRs ended mostly down.

Sterlite and Tata Communications plunged 5% each to $10.77 and $24.74, respectively.

Infosys, Genpact and Wipro dropped 2% each to $31.53, $10.39 and $10.87, respectively.

Satyam and ICICI Bank declined 1.5% to $1.92 and $28.01, respectively.

Meanwhile, MTNL surged 8% to $3.84. Tata Motors rallied 7% to $9.55.

Dr Reddy's added 1% to $13.05. Patni Computers and HDFC Bank ended flat.
