US markets rise

US indices ended with decent gains following a tech rally and favourable comments from Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan, even though oil prices shot up 3%.

As a result, the Dow Jones rose 26 points to 10,503 while the Nasdaq added 17 points to 2,077.

Indian ADRs had a mixed run on the US bourses. Wipro jumped 2.53% to $21.85, and Infosys was marginally up at $72.39. Satyam remained unchanged at $24.90.

HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and MTNL ended with steady gains at $44.53, $21.87 and $6.80, respectively. Dr. Reddy's, Tata Motors and VSNL, however, ended laggards at $16.24, $9.80 and $10, respectively.
