US markets slump; Indian ADRs tumble

US stocks slumped on Wednesday after a dismal retail sales report revived recent anxiety about the economy's struggle which led to huge selling that accelerated late in the session.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 184 points ( 2%) to 8,285. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 24 points (3%) to 884. The Nasdaq Composite Index gave up 52 points (3%) to 1,664.

The Indian ADRs even ended on a negative note.

Tata Motors tumbled 8.5% to $7.17. ICICI Bank slumped over 6.5% to $20.99. Sterlite and HDFC slipped 6% each to $9.19 and $73.89, respectively.

Infosys was down over 4.5% to $30.36. Satyam and Wipro lost 4% each to $1.79 and $10.10,respectively.

 

Tata Communications and Dr. Reddy's dropped 3% each to $21.94 and $11.33, respectively. Genpact slipped over 2.5% to $9.81.

However, MTNL was up over 1% at $2.90.
