Positive news from GM, Caterpillar failed to cheer the US indices as wary investors were looking forward to Alan Greenspan's testimony. As a result, the Nasdaq lost seven points to close at 2,060, while the Dow Jones dipped six points to 10,477.

While tech ADRs displayed weak sentiment, other floats had a mixed outing on the US bourses. Infosys, Satyam and Wipro were down a per cent each at $71.82, $24.90 and $21.31, respectively.

While Dr. Reddy's, too, ended lacklustre at $16.31, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and MTNL posted steady gains at $44.38, $21.66 and $6.69, respectively. Tata Motors and VSNL remained unchanged from their previous close at $10 and $10.10, respectively.
