US stocks rise; Nasdaq at 15-month high

The US stocks rose overnight, with the Nasdaq touching a 15-month high, after a healthcare reform bill passed a crucial tes in the Senate and brokerages upgraded two Dow companies on improving profit prospects.

The Dow Jones ended at 10,414, stronger by 85 points or 0.8%, Nasdaq closed at 2,237, higher by 25 points or 1.1% and the S&P shut at 1,114, up 11 points or 1%.

The Indian ADRs ended mixed.
 
Sterlite closed at $16, weaker by $0.5 or 3%, Wipro ended at $22, down $0.8 or 3% and Infosys shed $0.5 or 1% at $54.

HDFC Bank closed at $124, higher by $2 or 1%, ICICI Bank ended at $34, stronger by $0.4 or 1.3% and Dr Reddy's added $0.1 or 0.7% at $26.
