Volatile Day: Sensex up 188pts; RIL leads

The Sensex is now up 188 points at 16,819.

The NSE Nifty is up 55 points at 4,912.

Reliance (RIL) has rallied 3.5% to Rs 2,357. ICICI Bank has surged 2.4% to Rs 1,060.

Cipla has moved up 1.8% to Rs 190. Bharti Airtel and Tata Steel have added 1.5% each to Rs 862 and Rs 737, respectively.

Bajaj Auto, BHEL and ONGC are up 1.3% each at Rs 2,145, Rs 1,923 and Rs 953, respectively.

TCS has slumped 3.7% to Rs 870, and Satyam has shed 3% at Rs 411.

Ambuja Cements has dropped 2.7% to Rs 112. ACC and Reliance Energy are down 2% each at Rs 722 and Rs 1,550, respectively.

Out of 2,567 stocks traded, 2,153 have declined, 375 have advanced and 39 are unchanged.
