Volatile opening, Sensex flat

The Sensex opened above the 6,500 mark at 6,507 (a gain of 14 points over its last close), and inched up to touch a high of 6,513, before profit-taking dragged it to a low of 6,474.

The Sensex has recovered from its early fall and is now flat at 6,493, while the Nifty is down three points at 2,033.

Reliance has gained a per cent (Rs 6) to Rs 551. ICICI Bank is up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 397.

Dr. Reddy's and Cipla are up a per cent each at Rs 745 and Rs 258, respectively.

BHEL has added 1.12% (Rs 9) to Rs 776.

ONGC has slipped a per cent (Rs 7) to Rs 876. ITC has declined 1.47% (Rs 20) to Rs 1,324. HLL is down a tad at Rs 132.

Infosys, after reporting strong gains yesterday, has lost a per cent (Rs 13) to Rs 2,240. Wipro has dropped 2% (Rs 14) to Rs 657.

HDFC Bank has commenced weak to Rs 542 - down Rs 2.

Hero Honda is up a per cent (Rs 4) at Rs 552, while Bajaj has lost 1.33% (Rs 14) to Rs 1,067.
