Volatility persists...

The markets are volatile in a narrow band and the Sensex is now at 17,583, down 33 points. The Nifty is 10 points down at 5,264.

Among the Sensex-30 stocks,Hero Honda and Larsen & Toubro, up 2% each on the BSE at Rs 2,020 and Rs 1,807, respectively.

The other major gainers are BHEL, Jindal Steel and Tata Motors, up 1% each.

On the other hand Reliance Communications and Reliance Infrastructure have dropped 2% each to Rs 187 and Rs 1,177, respectively.

The market breadth has turned negative, out of 2,870 shares traded, 1,588 have declined and 1,182 have advanced on the BSE.

The midcap and the smallcap indices are flat now.

Among the sectoral indices, capital goods and consumer durables have added 1% each at 14,590 and 4,497, respectively.

On the other hand the Oil&gas index is the major sectoral loser, down 1%. It is followed by metal index, down 0.5% at 14,904.
