Volumes peak on roll-over moves

Volumes on the National Stock Exchange's derivatives segment picked up due to roll-over of positions and touched Rs 13,145 crore. The most active futures contracts were Tisco, Tata Motors, Reliance Industries and Satyam.
 
Nifty futures closed at par to the spot Nifty and saw huge roll-over of 20 lakh shares to the April series. The implied volatility in call options was 20 per cent while the volatility in put options was 27 per cent.
 
Among heavyweights, roll-over of 20 lakh shares was seen in Tisco. There was roll-over of 13 lakh shares in Tata Motors, 11 lakh shares in Reliance Industries and 6 lakh shares in SBI.
 
Gujarat Ambuja saw good activity in the futures and traded at a steep backwardation to its spot price. The counter witnessed roll-over of around 12 lakh shares.
 
ONGC April futures saw the backwardation rising from 40 points to nearly 60 points. There was a marginal increase in open interest in March and April series.
 
Polaris is witnessing accumulation and the stock added around 5 lakh shares during the day.
