Volumes remain low

Volumes in the derivatives segment continued low. The NSE recorded a turnover of Rs 5,399 crore and the outstanding open interest in the segment at the end of the day's trading was 22.63 crore shares.
 
In index futures, the turnover was of the order of Rs 1,384 crore and the open interest at 1.02 crore shares. Individual stock futures saw a turnover of Rs 1,208 crore. A total of 1.83 lakh contracts were traded.
 
In the futures segment, the top traded contracts were those of Tata Motors, Tisco, Reliance Industries, State Bank of India and ACC among others.
 
The outstanding open interest in Tisco was 1.60 crore shares, Tata Motors 93 lakh shares, Reliance 86 lakh shares, Arvind Mills 73 lakh shares and Hind Lever 72 lakh shares.
 
In the options segment, the top traded calls were those of Tata Motors at a strike price of Rs 400, Tisco at 260 and 250, Reliance at a strike of 480 and Satyam at a strike of 360.
 
In the puts, the most traded contracts were those of Tata Steel at strikes of 250 and 260, Tata Motors at a strike of 400, Reliance at a strike of 480 and Satyam at 350 strike.
 
Nifty September futures again were at a discount to the spot value, closing the day's session at 1,650.15, compared to the spot Nifty's closing of 1,656.25.
 
The Nifty October series closed down further at 1,646.05. The put-call ratio in the options segment was of the order of 0.5:1, same as the previous day.
