Wall St erase early gains, end in red; ADRs slip

The Wall Street indices came of highs to end in red as stocks plunged on signs of deeper recession. The Dow Jones industrial average index, which touched a high of 7,402, ended with a loss of 89 points at 7,182. The Nasdaq tumbled from a high of 1,445, to finish 34 points lower at 1,391.

Indian ADRs, too, ended in red. Satyam and ICICI Bank plunged over 5% each to $1.61 and $12.83, respectively. Patni Computers slumped 3.5% to $4.83. Infosys, Wipro, HDFC Bank, MTNL, Tata Motors and Dr.Reddy's dropped 1-3% each.
