Wall St moves up; ADRs end down

The US indices moved up on Thursday after a major credit rating agency said the end to subprime-related write-downs is in sight, triggering a rebound in financial shares. The Dow Jones industrial average moved up 36 points to 12,146. The Nasdaq gained 20 points at 2,264.

Indian ADRs ended mostly weak. HDFC Bank and Tata Communications plunged 3.7% each to $98.10 and $24.08, respectively. Sterlite shed 2.7% at $19.02, and Patni Computers dropped 2.3% to $10.41. Infosys, ICICI Bank, MTNL and Tata Motors were down 1-2% each. Satyam, however, gained nearly 4% at $22.41.
