Weak opening, Sensex down 3 pts

The market has eased in early trades after a firm close last week, as stocks of heavyweights and other old economy counters have come under selling pressure. The Sensex is now down three points at 6,343, while the Nifty has lost five points to 1,962.

Reliance has commenced with a per cent loss (Rs 4) at Rs 543. While ITC, too, has declined a per cent (Rs 8) to Rs 1,385, HLL is down a rupee at Rs 132.

ONGC is down Rs 3 at Rs 851, and HPCL has slipped 1.12% (Rs 4) to Rs 318.

Maruti and Tata Motors have lost a per cent each to Rs 436 (down Rs 4) and Rs 433 (down Rs 3), respectively.

Grasim, however, has logged 1.33% gains (Rs 16) to Rs 1,215, while Gujarat Ambuja is up a rupee at Rs 435.

HDFC has added 1.12% (Rs 8) to Rs 734.
