Weakness prevails, Sensex down 283pts

The Sensex is now down 283 points at 9674.

Ranbaxy has tumbled over 8% to Rs 357. Larsen & Toubro has plunged 6% to Rs 2,000.

SBI, Hindalco and Reliance Energy have shed 5.5% each to Rs 795, Rs 152 and Rs 402, respectively.

Tata Steel and NTPC have declined nearly 5% each to Rs 456 and Rs 101, respectively. Tata Motors is down over 4% at Rs 736.

ONGC has dropped 3.7% to Rs 1,003, and Gujarat Ambuja has crumbled over 3% to Rs 87.

Out of 2,398 stocks traded so far, 2,239 have declined, 138 have advanced and 21 are unchanged.
