DRY FRUITS: Mixed conditions prevailed on the wholesale dry fruit market during the week with prices of cashew and pistachio rising on pick up in demand, while almond and copra weakened for want of support. 

Marketmen said holding back of stocks by speculators amid negligible arrivals from producing centres, attributed to the rise in select dry fruit prices.

Cashew kernel No 180, No 210, No 240 and No 320 increased up to Rs 25 to Rs 650-660, Rs 590-600, Rs 530-540 and Rs 430-450 and its broken firmed up to Rs 10 to finish at Rs 445-450, Rs 400-435 and Rs 280-350 per kg respectively

Chilgoza-roasted spurted at Rs 1,400-1,600 instead of Rs 1,350-1,550 per kg on fall in supply from Afghanistan. Coconut power traded higher at Rs 2,600-2,800 against previous closing of Rs 2,400-2,500 per 25 kg.

Pistachio Irani and hairati rose up to Rs 25 to settle at Rs 825-875 and Rs 1,100-1,200 per kg respectively.

On the other hand, almond california prices fell by Rs 100 to finish at Rs 10,200 per 40 kg and its kernel declined by Rs 10 to conclude at Rs 360-365 per kg. Copra prices fell by Rs 100 each to conclude at Rs 5,700-5,900 and Rs 3,200-8,500 per quintal respectively. 

Kishmish Indian yellow also declined by Rs 100 to finish at Rs 3,900-4,500 per 40 kg.

KIRANA: Firm conditions continued unabated on the wholesale market during the week under review as prices of black pepper and cardamom surged on increased buying by retailers and stockists on account of marriage season amid restricted arrivals from producing regions.

Traders said increased offtake by local parties as well as stockists and firm trend in most spices in futures trading, mainly buoyed the trading sentiments.

Exports demand also influenced select spice prices, they said. Black pepper prices rose by Rs 100 to Rs 21,800-21,900 per quintal.

Cardamom brown (Jhundiwali and Kanchicut) traded higher at Rs 980-990 and Rs 1,200-1,225 from previous closing of Rs 900-950 and Rs 900-1,050 per kg, respectively.

Mace red and yellow prices spurted at Rs 1,450-1,700 and Rs 1,700-1,750 against previous mark of Rs 1,200-1,450 and Rs 1,450-1,500 per kg respectively.

Nutmeg prices rose from Rs 540-560 to finish at Rs 620-625 per kg.

Red chilli rose by Rs 500 to settle at Rs 5,800-11,000 per quintal on firm trends at country's leading wholesale market, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.

Jeera common and jeera best quality also rose by Rs 100 to finish at Rs 13,300-13,600 and Rs 14,400-14,900 per quintal, respectively.
