Dry fruits: The wholesale dry fruits market depicted a mixed trend during the past week as almond and pistachio prices declined on sluggish demand, while copra and walnut moved up on pick up in retailers buying support.

Traders said sluggish demand against adequate stocks and a weak trend in producing region mainly led to decline in almond and pistahio prices.

They said some buying by retailers for the ongoing marriage season mainly pushed up copra and walnut prices.

Almond (California) fell by Rs 250 to Rs 9,700 per 40 kg bag on fall in demand. Its kernel followed suit and traded lower by Rs 12 to Rs 350-355 per kg.

Pistachio Irani and Hairati were down by Rs 50 each to Rs 800-850 and Rs 1,060-1,185 per kg, respectively.

On the other hand, copra prices seen in demand and advanced by Rs 200 to Rs 7,900-8,000 per quintal.

Walnut also attracted some local buying and moved up by Rs 25 to Rs 185-250 per 40 kg and its kernel traded higher by the similar margin to Rs 475-725 per kg.

Kirana: Select spices such as ajwain, black pepper and dhania moved down on the wholesale kirana market today on increased arrivals on lack of buying support from stockists, while red chilli and cloves traded higher on local demand.

Traders said increased arrivals from producing regions against reduced offtake by stockists and retailers mainly pulled down select wholesale spice prices.

They said some buying by local traders in view of the ongoing marriage season helped red chilli and cloves prices to trade higher.

In the national capital, black pepper and dhania dropped by Rs 500 and Rs 300 to settled at Rs 22,500-22,700 and Rs 5,200-9,700 per quintal, respectively.

Ajwain also lacked necessary follow up support and fell by Rs 200 to Rs 12,500-19,000 per quintal.

However, red chilli found selective buying support from retailers in view of marriage season and moved up by Rs 200 to Rs 6,700-11,200 per quintal.

Cloves also inched up by Rs 5 to Rs 345-405 per kg.
