Sugar: A weak trend developed in the wholesale sugar market during the week under review following adequate stocks position against ample supply from mills, with prices of the commodity ending lower by up to Rs 40 per quintal.

Allocation of the free sale sugar quota of 19.07 lakh tonnes for the month of April also pushed up the ready stocks position in the domestic markets.

Sugar ready medium and second grade prices dropped from Rs 3,000-3,150 and Rs 2,990-3,125 to Rs 3,000-3,125 and Rs 2,990-3,100 per quintal, respectively.

Mill delivery medium and second grade also fell to Rs 2,775-2,925 and Rs 2,750-2,900 as compared to last week's close of Rs 2,800-2,950 and Rs 2,775-2,925 per quintal.

In the millgate excluding duty section, sugar Asmoli and Budhana slipped by Rs 40 each to Rs 2,880 and Rs 2,810 per quinta, while Mawana declined by Rs 35 to Rs 2,865 per quintal.

Sugar Titabi also went down by Rs 30 to Rs 2,860 per quintal.
