Wheat, rice strengthen as demand picks up

Prices of wheat and other grains rose up to Rs 100 per quintal in the wholesale grains market today on fresh buying activity in view of the marriage season against restricted arrivals.

Traders said increased offtake by flour mills against restricted arrivals mainly led to the rise in wheat dara prices.

Wheat dara (for mills) traded Rs 20 higher at Rs 1300-1305 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery in line with wheat, also traded higher by the same margin to Rs 1,305-1,310 per 90 kg.

Atta flour mills and maida also seen in demand and advanced by Rs 20 and Rs 5 to Rs 685-705 and Rs 765-795 per 50 kg.

In the rice section, basmati common and Pusa-1121 varities rose by Rs 100 each to Rs 5,900-6,000 and Rs 4,800-5,400 per quintal.
