Wheat rises on tight supply, increased demand

Wheat and its product prices rose up to Rs 50 per quintal on the wholesale grains market today on increased demand in view of marriage season against tight supply.

Non-basmati rice also showed a firming trend on pick up in demand from retailers.

Traders said increased demand for the marriage season against less arrival from producing region mainly led to rise in wheat prices.

In the national capital, wheat deshi and wheat dara (for mills) rose by Rs 30 each to Rs 1,730-1,880 and Rs 1,390-1,395 per quintal, respectively. 

Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded higher by Rs 50 to Rs 1,415-1,420 per quintal, while atta flour mills gained Rs 30 to Rs 740-760 per 50 kg. 

Tracking firming wheat trend, maida and sooji prices moved up by Rs 30 each to Rs 800-830 and Rs 860-880 per 50 kg.

In the rice section, permal raw, wand, sela and IR-8 were also traded higher by Rs 50 each to Rs 1,850-1,900, Rs 2,000-2,150, Rs 2,150-2,205 and Rs 1,720-1,745 per quintal, respectively.
