Zinc down on sluggish spot demand

Zinc prices fell by Rs 1.15, or 1.41 per cent, to Rs 80.25 per kg today in futures trade on less demand amid weakening trend at spot markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for June contract traded Rs 1.15, or 1.41 per cent down at Rs 80.25 per kg, with a turnover of 1,849 lots.

The metal for delivery in July contract also fell by Rs 1.05 or 1.28 per cent to Rs 81.30 per kg, with a turnover of 126 lots.

Analysts said apart from subdued demand at spot markets, weakness in base metals pack overseas on concerns that the slowing Chinese economy, may hurt the demand for the metal, kept pressure on the zinc futures prices.
