Tracking a weak global trend, zinc prices fell by Rs 1.20, or 1.22, to Rs 97.05 per kg in futures trade today owing to slack demand in spot markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, zinc for September-month lost Rs 1.20, or 1.22 per cent, to Rs 97.05 per kg, with an open interest of 3,381 lots.

The metal for delivery in October also shed Rs 1.15, or 1.20 per cent, to Rs 98 per kg, with an open interest of 261 lots.

Marketmen said subdued demand in the spot and reports of weakening trend in global trend mainly influenced the zinc prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, zinc lost 0.8 per cent at $2,077.50 a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
