Tracking other base metals and spot demand in domestic markets, zinc futures gained 0.85 per cent to Rs 100.50 per kg today.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange platform, zinc for October contract delivery gained 85 paisa, or 0.85 per cent, to Rs 100.50 per kg, with a turnover of 14 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in far-month November also edged higher by 60 paisa, or 0.59 per cent, to Rs 101.50 per kg, in a turnover of one lot.

Analysts said apart from strong demand in the physical markets, a firming trend in base metals on the back of dollar weakness boosted the appeal of base metals as a safe investment.

Meanwhile, zinc in London rose by 1 per cent to $2,170 per tonne.
