Buoyed by a firming trend in global markets along with better spot demand, zinc prices traded higher by Rs 1.70, or 1.60%, to Rs 108.25 per kg in futures trade today.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for September delivery traded higher by Rs 1.70, or 1.60%, to Rs 108.25 per kg, with a business volume of eight lots.

The metal for July delivery also gained Rs 1.50, or 1.44%, to Rs 106 per kg in 6,319 lots.

Traders said apart from firming trend in global markets, increased domestic demand mainly led to the rise in zinc prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, zinc gained 1.3% to $2,380 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
