Zinc futures prices edged up by Rs 0.35, or 0.41 per cent, to Rs 84.85 per kg today on the back of gains in base metals at the London Metal Exchange.

Better demand from consuming industries at domestic markets too influenced metal prices in futures trade. On the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, zinc for delivery in July contract traded higher by Rs 0.35, or 0.41 per cent, at Rs 84.85 per kg, with a turnover of 603 lots.

The metal for delivery in August contract also rose by a similar margin to Rs 86.10 per kg, with a business volume of 53 lots.

At the London Metal Exchange counter, zinc rose 1.28 per cent to $1,833.25 per tonne, while at Shanghai it rose 0.46 per cent at 15,195 yuan per tonne in early trade today.

Market analysts attributed the continued rise in zinc futures prices to gains at the London Metal Exchange and better demand at domestic markets.
