Zinc prices moved up by almost one per cent in futures trade today after speculators created fresh positions, taking positive cues from the global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, August contract for zinc moved up by Rs 1.05, or 0.99%, to Rs 107.25 per kg, with a business turnover of 43 lots.

Likewise, July contract for the metal edged up by 90 paise, or 0.90%, to Rs 106.25 per kg in 1,290 lots.

Analysts said better trend in the base metals at the London Metal Exchange supported by a positive data last week showing that US manufacturing grew at a surprisingly strong pace in June, buoyed hopes that the global economy is starting to shake off recent weakness.

Meanwhile, zinc in London climbed one per cent.
