Zinc prices rose by 1.20 per cent to Rs 84.65 per kg in futures market today, as speculators built up fresh positions, supported by firming trend at the London Metal Exchange on increased buying by Chinese traders.

Increased demand for the metal at the domestic physical markets also influenced its prices at futures market here.

Zinc for delivery in July contract traded 1.20 per cent higher at Rs 84.65 per kg, with a turnover of 8,120 lots on the Multi Commodity Exchange counter.

The metal for delivery in August contract also edged up by Rupee one, or 1.18 per cent to Rs 85.95 per kg in a turnover of 1,026 lots.

Meanwhile, at the London Metal Exchange, zinc rose by 1.5 per cent to $1,824 a tonne.

Market analysts attributed the rise in zinc futures prices to better trend in the global markets after a spurt in buying by Chinese traders and domestic demand at the physical markets.
