Zinc softened by 0.09% to Rs 106.85 per kg in futures market today, as speculators offloaded their positions in tandem with weakness in global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in March weakened by 10 paise, or 0.09%, to Rs 106.85 per kg in business turnover of 141 lots.

February zinc traded lower by 5 paise, or 0.05%, to Rs 105.95 per kg in 3,705 lots.

Marketmen said a lower trend in base metals in overseas markets and subdued domestic demand mainly kept pressure on the zinc prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, zinc declined 0.9% to $2,140 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
