The new 2016 Mini Cooper will be unveiled at the soon to be heldthe Tokyo Motor Show and the first pics of the Convertible have surfaced and clearly reveals what the car is all about.
The new Mini is planned to be launched in the UK by March2016, thisthird generation of the MiniConvertible is better equipped.Itreceives fresh new exterior styling, with thefamiliar appearance but with a large single-frame grille and modifiedheadlamps, a more heavily raked windscreen, larger tail-lamps and a largerboot.The new Mini Convertible is 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm higher than its current modeland stands at 3821mm, 1727mm and 1415mm in length, width and height, respectively.
The new car getsanimprovedautomatic roofthat is claimed to open or close within 18 seconds after depressing the button. The roof folds and stays visible abovethe boot, similar to the existing car. Safety enhancements include a automatic roll barthat pulls upfrom behind the rear seatsduring apossible rollover.
Mini has adoptedBMW's high-strength steel UKL platform structure which has resulted in a 28mm increase in wheelbase, along with track widthsincrease by42mm at the front and 34mm at the rear, which also adds a little space inside.Bootcapacity is 215 litres with the roofup, which is 35 litres more than the current model. With the roof lowered,theboot space stands at160 litres.
The new Mini will sport a6.5-inch multimedia touchscreen screen, Bluetooth connectivity with a USB , rear parking sensorsand reverse camera.The Mini Convertible will comewith a choice of three engines which include a 134bhp 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol unit in the Cooper, a 189bhp 2.0-litre petrol four in the Cooper S and a 114bhp 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel in the Cooper D.There is also a 168bhp 2.0-litre diesel in the Cooper SD, which isplanned to be added to the line-up later.Astandard six-speed manual andanoptional six-speed automatic with paddle shifts are the gearbox options. Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control arestandard on all models.
The new Mini convertible is expected to be introduced in India by the end of 2016.
