Mahindra has been working on the S101, its new compact SUV to compete with the Ford Ecosport, Maruti Suzuki YBA and the Tata Nexon. The Mahindra S101 will a monocoque body frame, which is light in weight and a leaf might be picked from the XUV500 design and chassis book. This will be a front-wheel drive and a sub 4-metre SUV.
The Mahindra S101 will be made available with 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine options. These both engines will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. We can expect Mahindra to even introduce the AMT on diesel, but there won't an AWD. Mahindra has recently developed the 1.2-litre petrol engine and this will be first used in the S101. This compact SUV will be the most powerful vehicle in its segment with a power output of 98bhp, when compared to the competition, which will have a power close to 90bhp.
The S101 will get a completely new dashboard and this will be a five-seater, as the previously tested S101 was a six-seater as per the reported we have received.
S101 2WD 6 SEATER 5 SPEED (PASSENGER CAR)
But this was during the early testing days of the S101. The Mahindra S101 will have a ground clearance of 200mm and there won't be a spare vehicle attached at the back like the Bolero. Mahindra will be exporting the S101 with the petrol engine and this newly developed engine, might have more variants for bigger UVs that will be coming in the Mahindra portfolio.
