Mercedes-Benz will launch the C220 CDI this month, which will be the diesel avatar of its new-generation C-Class. The new C200 CGI was launched last year with just one variant. The C-Class comes to India as a complete body unit and the German automaker will commence the assembly of the C-Class very soon.
Mercedes-Benz-C-Class-00 The first lot of the C220 CDI will be a CBU as well and the company is preparing to introduce C-Class in the diesel variant. The C220 CDI is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 169bhp of power. This engine powers the rear wheels through a 7G-MATIC box. The new-generation C-Class (codenamed as W205) is a lot more luxurious than its predecessor and competition as it is no longer the entry-level sedan for Mercedes-Benz.
The new entry-level sedan is the CLA that was launched last month with petrol and diesel options. The C-Class diesel will be priced a bit more than the petrol as the diesel variant will be expensive. There is no C250 CDI at the moment, and this engine is powering only the E-Class in sedans.
The new C-Class diesel will be launched on the 11th of February. There is still some more time for the CKD variants to come in. The C-Class gets the Burmester music system and several S-Class features have trickled down into the C-Class. The new C-Class is lighter, quicker and a lot more fuel-efficient than the previous-generation. The competition will have to raise the bar to match the finesse of the new C-Class.
