At the moment, Renault and Nissan both offer diesel engines in the Micra and the Pulse, however both the companies are and will be offering diesels on their new entry-level products. A new 1.2-litre diesel engine has been derived from the existing 1.5-litr K9K engine. This engine will produce a power of about 50bhp. This engine will be utilised for Nissan Micra Active, Datsun GO and Datsun GO+.
Renault and Nissan are targeting a total of 15 percent market share, and majority of it will be in this mass market. Today, all the auto manufacturers are working towards developing smaller size diesel engines and so are Renault and Nissan. As diesel is still cheaper than petrol, there is still a pull towards this fuel. Maruti Suzuki, Tata and Honda are working towards smaller engines and Hyundai has already developed a 1.1-litre diesel engine.

For Renault and Nissan to achieve its target share market, the alliance has been developing a diesel engine. The engine has been developed and its real world testing will commence. The Micra Active diesel will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel and the Tata Kite diesel, while the Datsun GO diesels will have their own niche segment.
A couple of days ago, we got the interiors of the Tata Kite and even confirmed that this new Indica eV2 replacement will be powered by a 1.05-litre diesel engine. The interiors are derived from the Zest. Read our story to find out more details about the Tata Kite.
