Skoda's flagship model- Superb has been testing and being developed for new model production, as the Czech-based manufacturer has been preparing to introduce the new Superb. The next-generation Superb will be based on the MQB platform, on which all the new Volkswagen Group cars are based, starting from the Volkswagen Golf to the mid-range Audi.
Skoda has been teasing us with several sketches or covered-up car images for a while. One thing we can ensure is that the new generation Superb will be based on similar lines to the current one. It has a long wheelbase and it will have a sharper design than the current Superb. The new Superb will be showcased in early 2015 in Prague, and it will hit the showrooms in Czech Republic and other European countries in a few months after that. Skoda is preparing to introduce this across Europe by mid-2015. Expect it to come to India by early 2016 and even be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Skoda has shared a few sketches of the new Superb and it shows how this new flagship model will look like. It has a blend of Vision L and the Vision C concepts. The front end has a sharp nose and this new sedan get a thin LED array with projector headlamps, which we aren't sure about availability on the Indian spec Superb. The tail lamps still get the C-shaped design and window-area is lesser giving the design a lot more aggressive stance.
The interiors of the Skoda Superb do look sophisticated and fresh. The features that the current Superb misses out have been added to the new model like cruise control, touch screen infotainment system, satellite navigation, electric boot opener, traffic start-stop and Bluetooth connectivity being a few of them. The Skoda Superb will still a similar rear seat space comfort as well.
The engines to power the Superb will be the same 1.8-litre petrol that will produce 180bhp of power and will be made available with six-speed manual and seven-speed DSG. The diesel will be the 2.0-litre with a power output of 170bhp and 320Nm of maximum torque output. Expect the pricing of the new Skoda Superb to be increased by about 12 per cent, so the pricing should be around Rs 24-28 lakhs (on-road).
