Volvo Auto India has fasten its seatbelt for the much anticipated launch of the second-generation XC90 in India, which was unveiled internationally last year. In fact, the dealers have started taking pre-orders for the same at a token amount of Rs. 10 Lakhs, suggesting that official launch might happen sometime in April, and deliveries would start by July. It is expected that the new Volvo XC90 would come in a price bracket of Rs. 85-95lakhs.
New XC90 is the first company model to underpin the SPA platform and it measures 4950 mm in length, 1923 mm in width and 1776 mm in height. It has been learnt through various reliable sources that, initially, the company has imported 20 units of the top-of-the-end variant of the XC90, and out of which 11 have already been booked. The price of the SUV is expected to rise by 5-10 Lakhs after the initial launch period. The top-end trim of XC90 for India would boast premium features such as a Tesla Model S inspired touch-screen display with Google Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, an Orrefors-designed gear-lever, four-zone climate control, voice recognition, powered seats and a high-end music system.
Talking about the powertrain and transmission, the India-spec Volvo XC90 would be offered with a single diesel engine only. It would in-house a 1969cc, 4-pot inline twin-turbocharged diesel mill, which would generate a maximum power output of 225bhp at 4250rpm,and peak torque of 470Nm. It would be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which would disburse the power evenly to all the four wheels of the SUV. The Volvo XC90 would lock horns with the likes of Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, BMW X5, and Land Rover Discovery Sport.
