As many as 100 people are feared buried under a landslide in China's Sichuan province on Saturday morning, reports Xinhua, quoting authorities in Maoxian County.

According to local media reports, the side of a mountain collapsed leading to debris falling on 40 homes in Xinmo village.

Although the full extent of the damage caused by the landslide is unclear at the moment, emergency response teams have been put into operation.

The landslide from a high part of a mountain in Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of Aba fell on Xinmo Village at about 6 a.m., blocking a two-kilometer section of a river course.

Further details are awaited.
