The exchange of youth delegations between India and China started in 2006.

Meanwhile, China's Ambassador to India Le Yucheng called on the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal to discuss matters related to bilateral cooperation and people-to-people contact.

During their meeting, both sides noted that India China bilateral relations have witnessed all-round progress in the past about a decade with several key visits of political leaders of the two countries, starting with the visit of Indian Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee to China in 2003.

The recent visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping will help in further strengthening the India China relationship.

Both sides also noted that a 100-member Chinese youth delegation had visited India in September this year under the youth delegation exchange programme.

Both sides also noted that during the recent visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping, it has been decided that from 2015 to 2019, 200-member youth delegations will be exchanged between the two countries.

2015 has been designated as the "Visit India Year" in China and 2016 as the "Visit China Year" in India.
