The 13 Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel, who were detained by the Nepal Police after they "unconsciously" crossed over to the Nepalese territory allegedly chasing diesel smugglers early on Sunday, have been released.
The incident took place at 7 am when the SSB personnel apprehended some diesel smugglers. However, a few of them managed to flee at the Kishanganj-Jhapa border.
SSB Inspector General (Operation) Deepak Kumar said, "Chasing the smugglers, two of our jawans crossed over to the Nepalese Border. They were caught by some of the villagers, who handed them over to the Nepal Police."
"When the duo did not return for long, 11 jawans, who were on the Indian side, went into Nepal in search of their colleague. As they came to know that the duo was in the custody of police, they went the police station to talk to the Nepal Police. However, they were detained too," he said.
"However, when our commander held talks with the Nepal Police officers, the 13 personnel were released," he added.
