A 15-month-old boy from Seychelles Island, Brandon Ah Kong, became the youngest beneficiary of the Jaipur Foot produced by an NGO of Jaipur.
An non-governmental organisation, Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), popularly known as Jaipur Foot, helped the baby walk, who had no mobility since the time of birth.
Founder and chief patron of manufacturer of the world-famous Jaipur Foot, Doctor D.R. Mehta, said Brandon had a congenital problem and a part of his right leg below the knee was not developed. Kong was fitted with the artificial limb at a camp in Mauritius.
"The youngest beneficiary, perhaps the youngest beneficiary of the world getting limb, walking for the first time. Generally, we provide limb to the people who were walking, who have lost their mobility. Here there was no mobility at all from the day of birth and we made him walk," said Mehta.
Brandon might be the first and youngest baby in the world who took his first step with an artificial limb.
Parents of Brandon approached BMVSS in December 2014 when it organised a camp in Mauritius in association with a Mauritius-based NGO.
There are almost 1.4 million global users of famous 'Jaipur foot' who have availed the rubber-based prosthetic leg prepared using innovative technology.
BMVSS is the world's largest organisation serving the disabled. This NGO provides all its assistance, including artificial limbs, calipers and other aids and appliances totally free of charge.
