20 dead after train derails in Maharashtra (Update)

At least 20 people were killed and 145 injured after the engine and three coaches of Diva-Sawantwadi passenger train derailed on Sunday morning near Nagothane in Maharashtra's Raigarh district.

The mishap took place between Nagothane and Roha stations just outside a tunnel near Nidi village.

The injured passengers have been admitted in the local hospitals and rescue work is in process.

Following the accident, at least four trains were cancelled and routes of another 13 trains were diverted.

Meanwhile, Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge said announced that 2 lakh rupees will be given to the families of the deceased and 50,000 rupees and 10,000 rupees to injured victims as compensation.
