At least 20 fire tenders have reportedly been deployed to bring the fire that has engulfed the Rama Building under control.
Chief Fire Officer Vipin Kental gave assurances that the fire would not spread to other buildings nearby.
"We could enter the hall, but couldn't enter deep inside, as there are many rooms. As of now, we cannot say how much time it will take to extinguish the fire. But it is under control in the sense that there are no chances of the fire increasing further. It is on the floor only and we have contained it," said Kental.
"We are using the resources available to us, high raised platforms have been placed here on both sides, and we are also taking the help of the cutting tools, fire fighting is still going on. We tried to approach the building from the stairs inside, but there is too much of heat and smoke is making it difficult," he added.
Director of Project New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) OP Mishra also said that the fire is totally under control and all their officials are on the spot; however they are still monitoring and trying their best to contain it.
The NIIT education center, which is on the first floor of the building is under fire. The fire officer said there were no casualties so far and no one is stuck inside the building.
